此《佛教辅导基础课程》是专为有兴趣的佛教徒及佛教 的助人者特设的助人与个人成长系列。此课程除了教导 基本辅导技巧与运用外,主要是融入与结合了佛法的概 念与教义。以期让学员们可以学习运用佛法并有效的结 合辅导技巧以提高助人的效益, 同时学员们也能将所学 运用在日常生活及自我提升。

2. DBPC (佛教心理治疗与辅导文凭课程 Diploma in Buddhist Psychotherapy and Counselling)

The Diploma in Buddhist Psychotherapy and Counselling is to offer theoretical and practical training to those who wish to equip themselves with counselling therapeutic skills based upon Buddhist precepts and tenets. The course contents have been designed in a manner that ensures that the participants are not too bogged down with Buddhist religious adherences of various Buddhist traditions. Rather the course will focus on the tenets and teachings of early Indian Buddhism i.e. the fundamental teachings of the Lord Buddha Gotama. Coupled with some of the secular approaches to counselling and psychotherapy students will find the information provided in the course immensely useful and enriching when dealing with the mental and emotional issues of clients

· Those who wish to acquire new skills in the field of counselling and psychotherapy.
· Those who look for a common platform in terms of Buddhist doctrinal approaches to help them in delivering their counselling and psychotherapy skills.
· Those who are embarking upon a spiritual journey to provide help and healing to those with mental and emotional issues.
· Those with passion to help others.

Outcome of the course completion:
Upon completion of the course, participants will possess some basic knowledge of fundamental Buddhist doctrines and basic counselling skills that they can use to help others resolve some of their emotional and psychological issues.

Counselling Path:
Upon successful completion of this course, DBPC graduates can continue to volunteer as befrienders or para-counsellors at various organizations that provide mental health services, including KBCS Karuna Buddhist Counselling Service at Dot Connections. They can also pursue personal and professional development such as postgraduate courses in Counselling, which are offered by various higher learning institutions in Singapore.

The course consists of two parts:
* seven modules taught in 126 hours over 7 months and
* Internship (Practicum) with 90 hours of work being carried out in parallel with the modules.

The seven modules are as follows:
Code BPC001 – Basic counselling and psychotherapy theory
Code BPC002 – Basic counselling and psychotherapy skills
Code BPC003 – Indian Buddhism (early period)
Code BPC004 – Meditation
Code BPC005 – Ethics and Code of Conduct of Counsellors
Code BPC006 – Modern counselling and psychotherapy protocols
Code BPC007 – Dhamma Therapy

Course duration:
The diploma programme will run for seven months. Each module taught in a month will comprise six lessons of 3 hours per lesson (total 18 hours). The lessons will be held twice per week and the fourth week will be reserved for study evaluation. All seven sessions of a module are scheduled on Monday and Thursday, 7 pm to 10 pm.

Study evaluation:
At the end of each module, student competencies will be evaluated through open-book multiple choice questions (MCQ) and a short essay. Weightage will also be given to class participation.

The weightage is as follows:
· Multiple choice questions 50%
· Essay 40%
· Class participation 10%

Students shall be expected to be successful in all the seven modules before award of the diploma. Unsuccessful students in any module can request for a re-test at a later date.

The seven modules are taught in a combination of online and physical classes.
Practicum work are done mostly in students’ own time and it involves some meetings in both online and physical modes, depending on the practicum sites selected by the students.

Internship (Practicum):
Students are expected to acquire some practical experiences through internship in various community entities. The internship programme will consist of the following components:

One-on-one befriending/ Para-counselling 30 hours
Clinical supervision 03 hours
Group supervision 07 hours
Meditation 20 hours
Personal development 20 hours
Reflective journal 10 hours
Total practicum hours 90 hours

The course fee shall be S$400.00 per module and $2,800 for seven modules.
Discount of $280 is granted for early payment.

Additional fees of $300 shall consist of registration fee ($100 non-refundable), text books ($100) and clinical supervision fee ($100).

Usual Total Fees Payable: $3,100. ($2,800 + $300)
Early Bird Total Fees Payable: $2,820 ($2,520 + $300)

DBPC Trainers’ Profile

Dr. Jeffrey Po

PhD (Counselling Psychology), Grad. Dipl. Counselling Supervisor, Certified Spiritual Counsellor, Certified Meditation Instructor.

Dr. Jeffrey Po is a practising Counselling Psychologist in private practice and currently engaged by NTU School of Material Science and Engineering as Senior Counsellor and National University Health Service to provide counselling service to the Jurong cluster of hospitals and polyclinics.
He also holds a Certificate in Comprehensive Buddhist Studies (Singapore Buddhist Research Society), Diplomas in Buddhist Studies from YMBA and the Buddhist and Pali College. He had attended specialised workshops and courses conducted by Profs. Sumanapala, Karunadasa and Chandima. In collaboration with the World University in Bangkok, he designed the Diploma in Buddhist Studies for the Singapore Buddhist Library.

Sim Kwang Mong

Masters in Counselling, Specialist Dip. in Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy, Med. flow-Psychotherapy (Practitioner). He is a practising counsellor with years of experience working with adolescents and in pre- & post-marital counselling. Certified Prep/Enrich & MBTI facilitator. Lectures in DBPC course, Certified Professional Counselling Supervisor  (Australian Counselling Association (ACA).

Dr. Teo Yew Thong

Ph.D., Electr. Engr. (Control System Engr.), Bachelor in Electr. Engr, First Class Honors, Master of Counselling (Adv), Graduate Dip. of Social Science (Prof. Counselling)

Dr Teo obtained his doctorate from NUS and worked in engr. field till his retirement in 2013. He then switched runway to be a professional counsellor by obtaining a Master in Counselling back in 2018. Since then he has been providing pro bono counselling service in both Singapore and Johor Bahru as he is based most of his time in JB.
